Bergen (Storting constituency)

Bergen is a constituency that elects representatives to the Storting, the parliament of Norway. It covers the municipality of Bergen in Vestland county.

Prior to 2024, Bergen was its own county. As such, it was a separate constituency. The current constituency was formed in 2024 as part of a restructuring of Norwegian constituencies, incorporating Bergen into the larger Vestland county constituency. The redrawing of constituency lines aimed to better reflect population changes and ensure fair representation.

The Storting is composed of 169 members, and the allocation of seats per constituency is determined based on population and area size. The Bergen constituency, encompassing a significant urban center, typically elects a sizable number of representatives.

The representatives elected from Bergen are responsible for representing the interests of the Bergen population in the Storting. They participate in the legislative process, scrutinize government policies, and hold the government accountable. Political parties nominate candidates to stand for election, and voters cast their ballots for the party and individual they wish to represent them.

The outcome of elections in Bergen can be influenced by a variety of factors, including national political trends, local issues, and the popularity of individual candidates. Historically, Bergen has been a stronghold for parties on the left, but the political landscape is subject to change.
