STS-119
STS-119 was a NASA Space Shuttle mission to the International Space Station (ISS). It was flown by the Space Shuttle Discovery, launching on March 15, 2009, and landing on March 28, 2009. The primary objective of the mission was to deliver and install the final pair of solar arrays, the S6 truss segment, to the ISS. This completed the station's Integrated Truss Structure and brought the station to its full power-generating capability.
The crew of STS-119 consisted of seven astronauts: Lee Archambault (Commander), Tony Antonelli (Pilot), Joseph Acaba (Mission Specialist), Steve Swanson (Mission Specialist), Richard Arnold (Mission Specialist), John Phillips (Mission Specialist), and Koichi Wakata (Mission Specialist, JAXA). Wakata remained on the ISS as a member of Expedition 18/19, replacing Sandra Magnus, who returned to Earth with the STS-119 crew.
During the mission, the crew performed three spacewalks (EVAs) to install the S6 truss, activate its solar arrays, and prepare the station for future operations. Other activities included transferring cargo and supplies to the ISS, and conducting experiments. The mission was deemed a success, significantly enhancing the ISS's power generation and overall capabilities.
