SS Yoma
The SS Yoma was a cargo steamship built in 1906 by William Denny and Brothers of Dumbarton, Scotland, for the British-India Steam Navigation Company. It primarily served routes between Britain and India, carrying passengers and cargo.
During World War I, the SS Yoma was requisitioned by the British Admiralty and used as a troop transport. It participated in various campaigns, including deployments to the Mediterranean and the Middle East.
After the war, the Yoma was returned to the British-India Steam Navigation Company and resumed its commercial service. In 1934, it was sold to Japanese interests and renamed Hikawa Maru No. 2.
During World War II, the Hikawa Maru No. 2 was again requisitioned, this time by the Japanese Navy. Details of its wartime service under Japanese control are less well documented than its WWI service with the British.
Following World War II, the vessel was scrapped.
