Rupert of Palatinate-Simmern (bishop of Strasbourg)

Rupert of Palatinate-Simmern (1461 – 1507) was a member of the House of Wittelsbach and Bishop of Regensburg from 1492 to 1504, and Bishop of Strasbourg from 1506 to 1507.

Born into the Palatinate-Simmern line, Rupert was the son of William I, Duke of Bavaria-Munich (who had renounced his rights to the Duchy of Bavaria), and Countess Maria of Württemberg-Mömpelgard. His ecclesiastical career was advanced through family connections.

He was elected Bishop of Regensburg in 1492, succeeding Heinrich IV of Lichtenau. During his time in Regensburg, he faced financial difficulties and challenges to his authority.

In 1504, he resigned as Bishop of Regensburg and received an annual pension. In 1506, he was elected Bishop of Strasbourg, succeeding Albert of Bavaria. His tenure in Strasbourg was brief, lasting only a year until his death in 1507. He was succeeded by William III of Honstein.
