Run (American TV series)
Run is an American romantic comedic thriller television series that aired on HBO in 2020. Created by Vicky Jones and executive produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the series follows Ruby Richardson (Merritt Wever) and Billy Johnson (Domhnall Gleeson), two former college lovers who enact a pact they made 17 years prior: if either texts the other the word "RUN" and the other responds in kind, they will drop everything and meet in New York to travel across America together.
The series follows Ruby, a married suburban woman feeling trapped in her life, and Billy, a life guru living in London, as they impulsively abandon their lives to embark on an unplanned and potentially dangerous adventure. As they travel, the initial excitement of the reunion gives way to uncertainty, secrets, and increasingly complicated situations. The series explores themes of love, escape, identity, and the consequences of impulsive decisions.
In addition to Wever and Gleeson, the series stars Rich Sommer as Laurence, Ruby's husband, and Tamara Podemski as Detective Babe Cloud, who investigates the unfolding events.
"Run" premiered on HBO on April 12, 2020, and ran for one season of eight episodes. Although initially conceived as a limited series, there was speculation about a potential second season, however, the series was officially cancelled by HBO in July 2020.
