Nanjiyar

Nanjiyar (c. 1150 - 1250 CE) was a prominent Vaishnava theologian and one of the early Acharyas in the Sri Vaishnava tradition. He is considered to be the direct disciple of Parashara Bhattar, who was himself a disciple of Ramanuja. Nanjiyar's primary contribution lies in his commentaries and elucidations of the Divya Prabandham, the collection of devotional hymns composed by the Alvars.

Nanjiyar is particularly known for his commentary on Tiruvaymoli, the most important work within the Divya Prabandham, authored by Nammalvar. His commentary is characterized by its depth of understanding, insightful interpretations, and its ability to connect the Alvar's verses to the broader philosophical tenets of Vishishtadvaita Vedanta.

He played a significant role in preserving and propagating the teachings of Ramanuja and the Alvars, ensuring their continued influence within the Sri Vaishnava community. His work remains highly regarded and studied by scholars and practitioners of Sri Vaishnavism today.
