Royal George (1820 ship)
The Royal George was a British Royal Navy yacht launched in 1820. She was built at Deptford Dockyard and served as a royal yacht for multiple monarchs, including George IV, William IV, and Queen Victoria.
Primarily used for ceremonial duties, transporting royalty between ports, and attending naval reviews, the Royal George was a significant vessel embodying British naval power and royal prestige. She was renowned for her elegant design and luxurious interior, reflecting the status of her passengers.
The yacht underwent several refits and modifications during her long service life. Her career spanned much of the 19th century, a period of significant naval development and expansion for Great Britain. Eventually, with advancements in steam power and the construction of larger, more modern yachts, the Royal George became outdated.
She was eventually sold out of service and broken up, marking the end of an era for this prominent royal vessel. While no longer extant, the Royal George remains a notable example of a 19th-century royal yacht and a tangible link to the British monarchy's maritime history.
