Rosse (crater)

Rosse is a lunar impact crater located in the southern lunar highlands. It is situated to the south-southwest of the prominent crater Tycho, and to the west-northwest of the somewhat smaller crater Wilhelm. Because of its location in a relatively heavily cratered region, Rosse's rim is somewhat irregular and worn down from subsequent impacts. The inner walls slope gently down towards the relatively flat and featureless interior floor. There are no notable central peaks or other significant features within the crater. Its diameter is approximately 60 kilometers. The crater is named after Irish astronomer William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse. Further observations and analysis are required to fully understand its formation and geological history.
