Nick Evans (rugby union)
Nicholas "Nick" Evans (born 3 August 1980) is a New Zealand rugby union coach and former player. A fly-half or inside centre, he is best known for his playing career which included stints with the Highlanders and Blues in Super Rugby, as well as a period with Harlequins in the English Premiership. He also represented New Zealand internationally, playing for the All Blacks.
Playing Career:
Evans rose to prominence in New Zealand domestic rugby, earning selection for the Highlanders in 2001. He then moved to the Blues, becoming a key player in their Super Rugby campaigns. Known for his playmaking ability, tactical kicking, and goal-kicking prowess, Evans quickly gained international recognition.
He made his debut for the All Blacks in 2004 against England. He went on to represent New Zealand in numerous Test matches, including the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
In 2008, Evans joined Harlequins in the English Premiership. He became a pivotal figure for the club, leading them to success in the Premiership and European competitions. His time at Harlequins was marked by consistent performances and leadership on the field. He retired from playing in 2017.
Coaching Career:
Following his retirement from playing, Evans transitioned into coaching. He initially remained at Harlequins as a coach, working with the team's attack and backs. He has been credited with contributing to the development of Harlequins' attacking style.
