The Flume (Alton Towers)

The Flume was a log flume ride located at Alton Towers theme park in Staffordshire, England. Opened in 1981 and sponsored by various companies throughout its lifetime, including Imperial Leather and later Cadbury, it was a popular family attraction for over three decades. The ride involved passengers sitting in hollowed-out logs which travelled along a water-filled channel, ascending several lifts and culminating in two drops, a smaller one and then a larger, final plunge into a splash pool.

Throughout its operation, The Flume became a recognisable landmark within the park due to its prominent location and the large volume of water it used. It was known for providing a moderate thrill experience suitable for a wide range of ages.

The ride closed permanently at the end of the 2015 season. Its closure was attributed to a combination of factors, including the ride's age, increasing maintenance costs, and the park's desire to introduce new attractions. The area previously occupied by The Flume has since been redeveloped.
