Shawkat Ali (officer)

Shawkat Ali (born 1937, died 2020) was a Bangladeshi military officer and a key figure in the Agartala Conspiracy Case, a sedition case filed by the Pakistani government in 1968 against Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and others. At the time, Ali was a Lieutenant in the Pakistan Navy. He was implicated for allegedly conspiring with Indian agents to separate East Pakistan from Pakistan.

Following the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, Ali was released from prison. He subsequently joined the Bangladesh Navy and rose to the rank of Captain. He was later involved in politics and served as a Member of Parliament multiple times from the Shariatpur-2 constituency representing the Bangladesh Awami League. Ali also held the position of Deputy Speaker of the Bangladesh Parliament. He authored a book about his experiences during the Agartala Conspiracy Case and the Liberation War. His contributions to the navy and later in politics made him a recognized figure in Bangladeshi history.
