Alan Smith (bishop)

Alan Smith is a retired Anglican bishop. He served as the Bishop of St Albans from 2009 to 2020.

Prior to his appointment to St Albans, Smith served as the Archdeacon of Rochester from 2002 to 2009. He was ordained as a priest in 1978 after studying at St John's College, Durham. His early ministry was spent in parish work in the dioceses of Guildford and Rochester.

During his time as Bishop of St Albans, Smith was known for his work on issues of social justice and community engagement. He also played a significant role in the national church, participating in various committees and initiatives. Since his retirement he has continued to be involved in various charitable activities and theological reflection.
