Moel Sych

Moel Sych is a mountain in north-east Wales. It is the highest point in the Berwyn range, reaching a height of 827 metres (2,713 feet) above sea level. While often described as a summit, its top is a broad, flat plateau, making it less visually distinct than some other peaks in the area.

The name "Moel Sych" is Welsh in origin, with "Moel" meaning a bare or bald hill, and "Sych" meaning dry. Therefore, the name translates roughly to "Dry Bare Hill."

The mountain lies within the county borough of Denbighshire and is part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), designated for its importance in terms of flora and fauna. The landscape is characterised by heather moorland and blanket bog, supporting a diverse range of plant and animal life.

Moel Sych is popular with hill walkers, though access can be challenging due to its remote location and the often boggy ground conditions. The summit offers extensive views across the surrounding countryside, including Snowdonia to the west and the Cheshire Plain to the east. Several walking routes lead to the summit, typically starting from nearby villages like Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog or Tan-y-Fron.
