Rajamäki (village)
Rajamäki is a village located in the municipality of Nurmijärvi, in the Uusimaa region of southern Finland. It is situated approximately 45 kilometers north of Helsinki. Rajamäki is notable for its industrial history, primarily associated with the Altia distillery, originally established as the Rajamäki Distillery in 1888. This distillery has been a significant employer and contributor to the local economy.
Beyond its industrial significance, Rajamäki offers residential areas, schools, and services for its inhabitants. The village has experienced growth in recent decades, attracting residents due to its proximity to the Helsinki metropolitan area and its relatively affordable housing options. It also features natural landscapes typical of southern Finland, including forests and lakes.
Historically, Rajamäki played a role in Finnish agriculture, before its focus shifted to the distillery. During periods of prohibition and wartime, the distillery's operations were adjusted to meet the needs of the state. Today, Rajamäki maintains a balance between its industrial heritage and its function as a residential community within the larger Nurmijärvi municipality.
