Román Martínez (boxer)

Román Martínez, also known as "Rocky," (born January 27, 1983) is a Puerto Rican former professional boxer. He is a former two-time world champion, having held the WBO junior lightweight title twice, from 2009 to 2010 and again from 2015 to 2016. He also held the WBO Latino super featherweight title.

Martínez turned professional in 2005 and quickly rose through the ranks. His aggressive fighting style and power earned him a reputation as an exciting fighter to watch. He captured his first world title in 2009 by defeating Nicky Cook for the vacant WBO junior lightweight title.

Martínez lost his title to Ricky Burns in 2010. He continued to fight, eventually earning another title shot in 2015 against Mikey Garcia. While Garcia was heavily favored, Martínez pulled off a stunning upset victory to regain the WBO junior lightweight title.

He faced Vasiliy Lomachenko in his next fight, losing the title. After several more fights, Martínez retired from boxing in 2019.
