HMCS Iroquois (G89)

HMCS Iroquois (G89) was a Tribal-class destroyer that served in the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) during the Second World War and the Korean War. Built by Vickers-Armstrongs in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, she was commissioned into the RCN on 30 November 1942.

During World War II, Iroquois served extensively in the North Atlantic, escorting convoys and participating in anti-submarine warfare. She also saw action in Arctic waters, escorting convoys to Murmansk, Russia. Iroquois was involved in numerous engagements against German U-boats and surface vessels.

Following the war, Iroquois underwent a major refit and modernization. She was recommissioned in 1949 and subsequently served in the Korean War, providing naval gunfire support and conducting patrols off the Korean coast.

After the Korean War, Iroquois continued to serve in the RCN, participating in various exercises and deployments. She was decommissioned in 1962 and broken up for scrap.

Iroquois was a highly decorated warship, earning numerous battle honours for her service during both World War II and the Korean War. Her service is a testament to the contributions of the Royal Canadian Navy during these conflicts.
