Roger Jackson (rower)
Roger Jackson (born January 14, 1942) is a Canadian academic, physician, and former rower. He is best known for winning a gold medal in coxless pairs at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, alongside George Hungerford.
Jackson's rowing career began at the University of British Columbia. Following his Olympic victory, he continued to compete, winning a silver medal at the 1966 Commonwealth Games. He also participated in the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City.
After retiring from competitive rowing, Jackson pursued a medical degree and specialized in sports medicine. He has held various academic and administrative positions, including Dean of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary and CEO of Own the Podium, an organization dedicated to improving Canada's performance in Olympic sports. He was inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1964 and the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame in 1966. He is a member of the Order of Canada. His contributions extend beyond his athletic accomplishments to include significant contributions to Canadian sport and academia.
