Raymond Thomas (cyclist)

Raymond Thomas (born February 11, 1986) is a Welsh professional road and track cyclist who currently rides for the Cofidis team. He is a highly accomplished all-rounder, known for his time trialling prowess, climbing ability, and tactical awareness.

Thomas began his professional cycling career with Barloworld in 2007. He then moved to Team Sky (later Team Ineos, and then Ineos Grenadiers) where he spent the majority of his career, from 2010 to 2021. He is best known for winning the 2018 Tour de France, becoming the first Welshman and third British rider to do so.

Prior to his Tour de France victory, Thomas had established himself as a valuable domestique and team leader, supporting riders like Chris Froome and Bradley Wiggins. He has also achieved significant individual successes, including winning Paris-Nice in 2016, the Critérium du Dauphiné in 2018, and the Tour de Romandie in 2021.

On the track, Thomas won a gold medal in the team pursuit at the 2008 Beijing Olympics as part of the Great Britain team. He also won three World Championship gold medals in the team pursuit in 2007, 2008 and 2012.

After leaving Ineos Grenadiers, he joined Cofidis in 2022. He continues to race at the highest level, aiming for further success in Grand Tours and other stage races. He is also recognized for his articulate and insightful commentary on cycling.
