SS Venus

The SS Venus was a Norwegian steamship built in 1931 by Bergens Mekaniske Verksteder. Primarily a passenger and cargo vessel, she operated on routes between Bergen, Norway, and Newcastle, England, for the Bergen Line (Bergenske Dampskibsselskab). She was known for her Art Deco interior and relatively high speed for a ship of her type.

During World War II, Venus was initially laid up in Norway. She was later seized by the German occupying forces and used as an accommodation ship and troop transport. The ship was damaged by Allied bombing during the war and was subsequently refitted after the conflict's conclusion.

Following the war, Venus was returned to the Bergen Line and resumed her pre-war service on the Bergen-Newcastle route. She continued in this role until the mid-1960s, when she was sold and eventually scrapped. The Venus represented a significant and popular ship for travel and trade between Norway and the United Kingdom during the interwar and post-war periods.
