Dugald Stewart (Vermont politician)

Dugald Stewart (1798-1853) was a Vermont lawyer, judge, and politician. He served as a Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court from 1846 to 1852. Prior to his time on the bench, Stewart was active in state politics, serving in the Vermont House of Representatives. He was a prominent member of the Whig Party in Vermont. Stewart was a resident of Middlebury, Vermont, and practiced law there for many years before his judicial appointment. He was known for his legal scholarship and his commitment to the principles of justice and fairness.
