Robert Ward (1754–1831)

Robert Ward (1754–1831) was an Irish politician and barrister. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Bangor from 1784 to 1790, and for County Down from 1790 until the Act of Union in 1801. Subsequently, he represented County Down in the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1821.

Ward was the son of Bernard Ward, 1st Viscount Bangor, and Lady Ann Bligh. He inherited his father's estates and title upon his father's death in 1781, becoming the 2nd Viscount Bangor.

He was a prominent figure in Irish politics during a turbulent period, witnessing the rise of Irish nationalism and the eventual union with Great Britain. He was known to support the union, believing it beneficial for the long-term stability of Ireland.

Ward married the Honorable Anne Magill in 1783. He was succeeded by his son, Edward Southwell Ward, 3rd Viscount Bangor.
