Robert Thompson (rugby, born 1869)
Robert Thompson (born 1869, date of death unknown) was a Welsh international rugby union player. Thompson played club rugby for Newport and represented Wales on one occasion.
Rugby Career
Thompson’s single international appearance for Wales was against England on 4 February 1893, at Cardiff Arms Park. Wales won the game 12-11. Thompson was brought into the Welsh squad at a time when the team was experiencing considerable success, eventually winning the Triple Crown in 1893. Despite this victory against England, Thompson never represented Wales again.
Club Career
Details regarding Thompson's club career are limited, but he is known to have played for Newport RFC. Further research is needed to fully document his career at the club level.
