Democratic Action Party (Kenya)
The Democratic Action Party (DAP) is a political party in Kenya. It was formally registered as a political party in Kenya in 2016. The party's symbol is a pawpaw and its motto is "Chapa Kazi," which translates to "Work Hard" in Swahili.
DAP-Kenya, often referred to as DAP-K, has its roots in the Western Kenya region. Prior to its registration under that name, some members were affiliated with different political movements. It gained prominence in the lead-up to the 2022 Kenyan general election, particularly within Bungoma County and Trans Nzoia County.
The party leader of DAP-Kenya is Wafula Wamunyinyi. During the 2022 elections, DAP-K aligned itself with the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance, which was led by Raila Odinga. DAP-K fielded candidates in various electoral seats, including parliamentary and gubernatorial races.
The party's platform generally emphasizes development, economic empowerment, and unity, particularly for the Western region of Kenya. Its presence in Kenyan politics continues to evolve as the country moves forward.
