Darnick
Darnick is a small village in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland. It is located approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) west of Galashiels and 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Melrose. Historically part of Roxburghshire, Darnick now falls within the administrative region of Scottish Borders Council.
The village is primarily residential, with a mix of traditional stone-built cottages and more modern housing. A notable landmark in Darnick is Darnick Tower, a 16th-century peel tower which offers views of the surrounding countryside. The tower, also known as "Littledean Tower," served as a defensive structure in earlier times.
Darnick is situated on the south bank of the River Tweed, though the village itself doesn't directly front the river. The surrounding area is characterized by rolling hills and agricultural land. While not a major tourist destination, Darnick benefits from its proximity to larger towns and attractions within the Scottish Borders, and offers a quieter, more rural living environment. Its name is likely of Brittonic origin.
