Ted (word processor)

Ted is a free and open-source word processor for the X Window System, available for Unix-like operating systems. Developed by Mark de Does, it's designed to be lightweight and fast, focusing on essential word processing features without excessive complexity.

Ted uses a native file format with a .ted extension but also supports Rich Text Format (RTF) for compatibility with other word processors. It features a graphical user interface (GUI) built using the Motif widget toolkit.

Key features of Ted include spell checking, multiple font support, paragraph styles, and basic image embedding. While it lacks some advanced features found in larger office suites, its simplicity and speed make it suitable for writing documents where a clean and focused environment is preferred.

Ted has not been actively developed in recent years, but it remains available and functional on many systems. The source code is available under the GPL license.
