Rob Schneiderman (mathematician)
Rob Schneiderman is an American mathematician specializing in low-dimensional topology and knot theory. He is a professor of mathematics at Lehman College, City University of New York (CUNY), and a member of the doctoral faculty at the CUNY Graduate Center.
Schneiderman's research primarily focuses on the topology of 3-manifolds and 4-manifolds, particularly the study of knots and links. He has made contributions to understanding the structure of knot concordance, using techniques from gauge theory and geometric topology. His work often involves the use of tools from symplectic topology and Heegaard Floer homology.
Schneiderman received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, under the supervision of Robion Kirby. He has published extensively in leading mathematics journals and is actively involved in mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. He is known for his clear exposition of complex mathematical ideas and his collaborative approach to research. His work is highly regarded in the field of geometric topology.
