No Warning (band)
No Warning is a Canadian hardcore punk band formed in Toronto, Ontario, in 1998. The band gained significant recognition within the hardcore scene for their energetic live performances and blend of traditional hardcore punk with influences from metal and hip-hop.
History:
No Warning was initially formed by vocalist Ben Cook, guitarist Alan Riches, bassist Matt Delong, and drummer Pat Galos. Their early sound was heavily influenced by bands like Madball and Agnostic Front, leaning towards a more traditional New York hardcore style. They quickly gained a following through local shows and the release of demos.
Their debut EP, Down for Life, released in 2000, solidified their position in the hardcore scene. The EP featured aggressive riffs and lyrics focused on themes of loyalty and street life. Following its release, they toured extensively.
In 2002, No Warning signed with Bridge Nine Records and released their critically acclaimed album, Ill Blood. This album marked a shift in their sound, incorporating more metal influences and experimental elements. Ill Blood is considered a landmark release in the hardcore genre and helped to expand their fanbase internationally.
After Ill Blood, No Warning went through several lineup changes. The band released their second full-length album, Suffer, Survive, in 2004 on Machine Shop Recordings, a Warner Bros. Records imprint. This album showcased a further evolution in their sound, incorporating elements of hip-hop and alternative rock. However, the release also marked a period of instability for the band.
Following the release of Suffer, Survive, No Warning went on hiatus. Ben Cook went on to form other bands, including Fucked Up and Young Guv.
In recent years, No Warning has occasionally reunited for live performances, playing select shows and festivals. These performances have been well-received by fans, demonstrating the band's enduring legacy within the hardcore community.
