Rien (Norway)

Rien is a village and former municipality in the county of Trøndelag, Norway. It was located on the Fosen peninsula, primarily on the island of Storfosna. The administrative centre was the village of Revsnes.

The municipality existed from 1892 until its dissolution in 1964. It was created when the old municipality of Storfosen was split into Nord-Storfosen and Sør-Storfosen. These were later renamed as Nord-Rissa and Sør-Rissa respectively. In 1899, Sør-Rissa was renamed to become the municipality of Rien.

Rien municipality bordered Stoksund to the north, Åfjord to the east, and Rissa to the south. Transportation was primarily by boat.

The main industries were related to fishing and agriculture. The population was relatively small.
