Richardson Lakes (Maine)
The Richardson Lakes are a pair of connected freshwater lakes located in western Maine, primarily within Oxford County. They comprise Upper Richardson Lake and Lower Richardson Lake, connected by a narrow channel known as The Narrows. They are part of the Androscoggin River watershed.
The lakes are known for their recreational opportunities, including fishing (especially for landlocked salmon and trout), boating, kayaking, canoeing, and camping. The surrounding area is heavily forested and largely undeveloped, contributing to a sense of remoteness and natural beauty. Several small islands are scattered throughout the lakes.
Historically, the Richardson Lakes were used for logging and transportation of timber. Remnants of this history can still be found in the area. The lakes are also significant for their ecological value, supporting a variety of plant and animal life. Access to the lakes is generally through several boat launches and private camps located along their shorelines.
