Richard P. Mills (general)
Richard P. Mills is a retired United States Marine Corps general. He last served as Commander, Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces North, from 2011 to 2015.
Mills graduated from Miami University in 1972 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps. Throughout his career, he held various command and staff positions, including platoon commander, company commander, battalion commander, and regimental commander.
He commanded the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) during Operation Joint Endeavor in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also served as the Assistant Division Commander of the 2nd Marine Division.
General Mills commanded Multi-National Corps Iraq (MNC-I) during Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2006 to 2007. Prior to his assignment as Commander, Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces North, he served as Deputy Commandant for Combat Development and Integration and Commanding General, Marine Corps Combat Development Command.
His decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and various campaign and service awards.
