Return to Peyton Place (film)
Return to Peyton Place is a 1961 American drama film directed by José Ferrer. It is a sequel to the 1957 film Peyton Place, and based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Grace Metalious.
The film stars Carol Lynley, Tuesday Weld, Jeff Chandler, Eleanor Parker, and Mary Astor. It continues the story of the small New England town and the scandals simmering beneath its seemingly idyllic surface. Allison MacKenzie (Lynley) struggles with the notoriety brought about by the success of her mother's scandalous novel, and the film explores the relationships and secrets within the community. The plot revolves around Allison's burgeoning career as an author, and the impact her success has on her personal life and relationships within Peyton Place. Other storylines involve new characters and continuing narratives from the first film, focusing on themes of repressed desires, social hypocrisy, and the changing morals of postwar America.
