Charlie Bates (baseball)

Charles "Charlie" Bates (born December 6, 1969) is an American former professional baseball player. He played primarily as a shortstop.

Bates was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 1st round (3rd overall) of the 1987 Major League Baseball draft. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Atlanta Braves (1991-1993), Colorado Rockies (1994-1995), Boston Red Sox (1995-1996), and Cincinnati Reds (1996).

While highly regarded as a prospect, Bates' MLB career was relatively short and he did not reach the level of success many predicted for him based on his minor league performance. Following his MLB career, he played in the minor leagues and independent baseball leagues.
