Reformists Coalition (2006)

The Reformists Coalition (2006) was a political alliance formed in Iran for the 2006 Iranian local elections and Assembly of Experts election held on December 15, 2006. It primarily consisted of reformist political parties and groups seeking to counter the influence of conservative and principalist factions within Iranian politics.

The coalition aimed to promote political and social reforms, greater transparency in government, and improved relations with the international community. It represented a diverse range of perspectives within the reformist movement, from moderate to more progressive viewpoints.

Despite their efforts, the Reformists Coalition did not achieve significant electoral success in 2006. The elections were largely dominated by conservative candidates. The coalition's limited success was attributed to factors such as internal divisions, voter apathy, and perceived restrictions on their campaigning activities. Following the elections, the coalition gradually dissolved and its constituent parties pursued their individual political agendas. The 2006 elections marked a period of decline for the reformist movement in Iranian politics, preceding a resurgence in later elections.
