Ravi Menon (economist)

Ravi Menon is a Singaporean economist and civil servant who served as the Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) from 2011 to 2024. He is widely recognized for his leadership in overseeing Singapore's monetary policy, financial regulation, and the development of its financial sector.

Menon holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the National University of Singapore.

Prior to his appointment at MAS, Menon held various senior positions within the Singaporean government. He served at the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Finance. He was also the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

As Managing Director of MAS, Menon was instrumental in shaping Singapore's fintech landscape, promoting innovation while ensuring financial stability and consumer protection. His tenure saw the development and implementation of policies related to digital payments, cryptocurrency, and cybersecurity within the financial sector. He actively advocated for international cooperation in financial regulation and was a prominent voice on global economic issues. He retired from his position at MAS on January 1, 2024.
