Fu River (Sichuan)

The Fu River (涪江, Pinyin: Fú Jiāng) is a major river in Sichuan Province, China. It is one of the primary tributaries of the Jialing River, which itself is a major tributary of the Yangtze River.

The Fu River originates in the Min Mountains in Songpan County, northwest Sichuan. It flows generally southeast through the Sichuan Basin, passing through or near several significant cities and counties, including Mianyang, Santai, and Suining, before joining the Jialing River at Hechuan in Chongqing Municipality.

The river's length is approximately 700 kilometers (435 miles). Its watershed is a significant agricultural region, known for its fertile land and contribution to Sichuan's rice and grain production. The river also serves as a vital waterway for transportation and irrigation in the region.

Historically, the Fu River has been subject to flooding. Water management projects, including dams and levees, have been implemented along its course to mitigate flood risk and ensure reliable water supply. The river is also important for hydropower generation.

The Fu River holds cultural significance, featuring in local folklore and traditions. Its banks have been inhabited for millennia, and archaeological sites along its course offer insights into the region's rich history.
