Lambda (anatomy)
Lambda (from the Greek letter Λ, lambda) in anatomy refers to the point at the back of the head where the lambdoid suture meets the sagittal suture. The lambdoid suture joins the parietal bones with the occipital bone, while the sagittal suture joins the two parietal bones. Therefore, the lambda is the junction of three cranial bones. Its location is a clinically significant landmark used in neuroanatomy and neurosurgery for orientation and measurement. Variations in its position and morphology can occur, and these variations are sometimes associated with certain skull conditions. Further research is required to fully understand the clinical significance of these variations.
