Remo Williams (character)

Remo Williams is the protagonist of "The Destroyer," a series of paperback novels created by Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir. The first book, Created, the Destroyer, was published in 1971. The series chronicles the adventures of Remo Williams, a Newark, New Jersey police officer framed for a crime he didn't commit and then "killed" so he can be recruited into a secret organization called CURE, dedicated to protecting the United States from threats that are too sensitive for conventional law enforcement or military action.

Remo is trained in the martial art of Sinanju, an ancient Korean discipline, by the demanding and eccentric Master Chiun. Sinanju grants Remo superhuman abilities, including incredible speed, strength, agility, and the ability to dodge bullets. He also develops a deep understanding of anatomy and pressure points, allowing him to disable opponents with minimal force.

Throughout the series, Remo travels the world, foiling plots by various enemies, ranging from organized crime syndicates to rogue government agencies and foreign powers. He is often partnered with, and frequently exasperated by, his mentor Chiun, whose cultural misunderstandings and egocentric personality provide comedic relief amidst the often-violent situations.

The character of Remo Williams was portrayed by Fred Ward in the 1985 film Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, which was intended to be the first in a series, although no sequels were made. The film attempted to capture the essence of the character and his training in Sinanju, but it deviated in some ways from the novel series.
