Eckartsau
Eckartsau is a municipality in the district of Gänserndorf in the Austrian state of Lower Austria. It is located in the Marchfeld region, east of Vienna.
The municipality is known primarily for Schloss Eckartsau, a baroque palace which served as the final residence of Emperor Charles I of Austria before his exile in 1919. It was here that Charles I signed the renunciation of his participation in state affairs, effectively ending the Habsburg monarchy in Austria. The palace and its grounds are a significant historical site, and the palace is open to visitors.
Aside from the historical significance of Schloss Eckartsau, the municipality is characterized by its rural setting, with agriculture playing a prominent role in the local economy. The surrounding Marchfeld is a fertile plain known for its agricultural production.
Eckartsau is accessible by road and public transport. The nearest major city is Vienna.
