Guan Ying

Guan Ying (館英) refers to a system of Romanization for the Hakka language, specifically the Sixian dialect, that was developed by the Taiwan Hakka Academy (臺灣客家發展協會). It is a relatively recent romanization system designed to be easier to learn and implement compared to older systems. Guan Ying attempts to provide a more intuitive phonetic representation of Hakka sounds, drawing influences from Mandarin Chinese Pinyin and other established romanization schemes. The system covers the various tones and initials/finals specific to the Sixian Hakka dialect. While not as widely adopted as some older romanization systems like PFS (Phak-fa-su), Guan Ying aims to be a user-friendly alternative that is promoted within Taiwan to aid in language preservation and education. It faces the challenge of gaining broader acceptance and usage across different Hakka communities and contexts.
