USS Ella (SP-1676)
The USS Ella (SP-1676) was a United States Navy patrol boat in commission from 1917 to 1919. Ella was built as a private motorboat in 1916. In 1917, the U.S. Navy acquired her from her owner, William Wilkens of Baltimore, Maryland, for use as a section patrol boat during World War I. She was enrolled in the Naval Coast Defense Reserve and assigned the identification number SP-1676.
Commissioned as USS Ella (SP-1676), the boat served on patrol duties in the 5th Naval District, which encompassed areas of Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. Her primary duties likely included coastal patrol, antisubmarine duties, and harbor security.
Following the end of World War I, Ella was stricken from the Navy List and returned to Wilkens in 1919. Her subsequent fate is unrecorded.
