Area (LDS Church)

In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, an Area is an administrative unit encompassing multiple stakes and missions. Areas are geographically defined regions managed by an Area Presidency.

The Area Presidency consists of three General Authority Seventies. They are assigned by the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles to preside over a specific geographic region. The Area Presidency provides leadership and direction to the stakes and missions within their assigned area, working to implement the programs and policies of the Church.

Responsibilities of the Area Presidency typically include:

• Providing spiritual guidance: They offer counsel and support to stake presidents, mission presidents, and members within the area.
• Overseeing missionary work: They supervise mission presidents and help to coordinate missionary efforts within the area.
• Training leaders: They provide training and resources to stake and ward leaders to help them effectively serve in their callings.
• Coordinating Church resources: They work to ensure that Church resources are used effectively to meet the needs of the members and the Church in the area.
• Implementing Church programs: They ensure the implementation of Church-wide programs and initiatives within the area.
• Representing the Church: They act as representatives of the Church in interactions with government officials, community leaders, and other organizations within the area.

The specific geographic boundaries of an Area are subject to change as the Church grows and the needs of the members evolve. Area Presidencies reside within their assigned areas and travel frequently to visit stakes and missions, meet with leaders and members, and provide instruction and encouragement.
