Scott Pioli
Scott Pioli is an American football executive who has held various prominent positions in the National Football League (NFL). He is best known for his tenures with the New England Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Pioli began his NFL career as a scouting assistant with the Cleveland Browns in 1992. He later joined the personnel department of the New York Jets before finding considerable success with the New England Patriots.
During his time with the Patriots (2000-2008), Pioli served as the team's vice president of player personnel and de facto general manager. He worked alongside head coach Bill Belichick to build a dynasty that won three Super Bowls (XXXVI, XXXVIII, and XXXIX). His responsibilities included player evaluation, scouting, contract negotiations, and managing the team's salary cap. He was named NFL Executive of the Year by The Sporting News in 2003 and 2007.
In 2009, Pioli became the general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs. His tenure there lasted until 2012. While with the Chiefs, he oversaw personnel decisions and attempted to rebuild the team. The Chiefs achieved an AFC West title in 2010 but ultimately struggled to sustain success under his leadership.
Following his departure from the Chiefs, Pioli has worked as an analyst for NFL Network and CBS Sports. He has also been involved in various consulting roles. He is considered an influential figure in NFL personnel management, known for his scouting acumen and understanding of team building principles.
