Pontiac (automobile)

Pontiac was an American automobile brand established as a companion marque to Oakland in 1926. Oakland was ultimately phased out, and Pontiac continued as a General Motors (GM) brand, positioned above Chevrolet and below Oldsmobile and Buick in GM's brand hierarchy.

Known for its performance-oriented vehicles, Pontiac often emphasized styling and available performance options, offering models such as the GTO, Firebird, Trans Am, and Grand Prix. The brand aimed to appeal to a younger, more enthusiastic driver.

Throughout its history, Pontiac produced a diverse range of vehicles, including sedans, coupes, convertibles, station wagons, and later, SUVs and minivans. Key models included the Bonneville, Catalina, and Solstice.

Despite periods of success, declining sales and financial difficulties within General Motors ultimately led to the discontinuation of the Pontiac brand in 2010 as part of GM's restructuring after its bankruptcy. The final Pontiac vehicle rolled off the assembly line in December 2009. Although the brand is no longer in production, Pontiac vehicles remain popular among enthusiasts and collectors.
