Chimes of Freedom (album)

Chimes of Freedom is a four-disc compilation album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released in 2012 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Amnesty International. It features covers of Dylan's songs by a wide variety of artists, as well as live performances by Dylan himself. The album's title is taken from Dylan's 1964 song "Chimes of Freedom," which is considered one of his most important protest songs.

The album was conceived to raise funds and awareness for Amnesty International's work in defending human rights around the world. It features a diverse range of musical genres and artists, showcasing the enduring influence of Dylan's songwriting across generations and musical styles.

The compilation includes performances by artists such as Pete Seeger, Adele, Patti Smith, Miley Cyrus, Johnny Cash, Sting, Diana Krall, Elvis Costello, My Chemical Romance, Kris Kristofferson, and many others. The songs were selected to reflect the themes of social justice and human rights that are central to both Dylan's work and Amnesty International's mission.

Chimes of Freedom received generally positive reviews and was praised for its ambitious scope and the quality of the performances. It debuted in the Billboard 200 chart. A portion of the proceeds from the album's sales were donated to Amnesty International.
