Pomponius Bassus (consul 211)
Pomponius Bassus was a Roman senator who held the office of consul in 211 AD, alongside Publius Cornelius Anullinus. His full name is generally understood to be Pomponius Bassus. He belonged to the gens Pomponia, a plebeian family of considerable antiquity.
Little is definitively known about his career beyond his consulship. The Fasti Consulares, the official lists of consuls, record his name for 211 AD. His consulship coincided with the reign of Emperor Caracalla, marking a period of intense political maneuvering and imperial consolidation.
The cognomen Bassus was common among several Roman families, and it is difficult to definitively link him to other individuals with the same name without further evidence. Research into senatorial careers during the Severan dynasty might yield further information about his activities and family connections, but at present, details regarding his life and political affiliations remain largely obscure. He is primarily known as the consul ordinarius for the year 211.
