Point of Impact (Stephen Hunter novel)
Point of Impact is a 1993 thriller novel written by Stephen Hunter. It is the first book in the Bob Lee Swagger series. The novel follows retired Marine sniper Bob Lee Swagger as he is reluctantly drawn back into service by shadowy government figures who need his expertise to prevent a potential assassination attempt on the President of the United States. However, Swagger is framed for the attempted assassination and must use all his skills and cunning to clear his name and uncover the conspiracy against him.
The story is known for its detailed descriptions of weaponry, marksmanship, and military tactics, as well as its exploration of themes of betrayal, government corruption, and the psychological toll of war. It established many of the characteristics and backstories that would define the Bob Lee Swagger character throughout the series. The novel was adapted into the 2007 film Shooter, starring Mark Wahlberg.
