Peter Moore (shoe designer)
Peter Moore was an American shoe designer and creative director, best known for his significant contributions to Nike in the 1980s. He played a crucial role in shaping the company's brand identity and designing some of its most iconic footwear.
Moore is credited with designing the Nike Air Jordan I, released in 1985. This basketball shoe, designed for Michael Jordan, became a cultural phenomenon and is considered one of the most important sneakers ever created. Its distinctive design, bold colors (including the controversial "Banned" colorway), and association with Jordan catapulted Nike into a leading position in the athletic footwear market.
Beyond the Air Jordan I, Moore also designed the Nike Dunk in 1985. Initially designed for college basketball teams, the Dunk became popular among skateboarders and later evolved into a streetwear staple. He was also responsible for creating the Nike logo now known as the "Wings" logo, featured prominently on the Air Jordan I.
After leaving Nike, Moore joined Adidas in the early 1990s, where he served as creative director. He oversaw design and branding initiatives, contributing to Adidas' resurgence and growth during that period. His influence on footwear design extends across multiple brands and continues to be felt today.
Peter Moore passed away in 2022. His legacy as a visionary designer and influential figure in the sneaker industry remains firmly established.
