Red Shirts (film)

Red Shirts is a 1975 Italian historical drama film directed by Goffredo Alessandrini and Bruno Vailati. It is also known by the Italian title Camicie Rosse.

The film tells the story of the Expedition of the Thousand, a military campaign led by Giuseppe Garibaldi in 1860 to conquer the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, which at the time comprised Southern Italy and Sicily. Garibaldi and his volunteer soldiers, known as "Red Shirts" (due to their distinctive red uniforms), landed in Sicily and successfully fought to unify the region with the rest of Italy. The film focuses on the struggles and sacrifices of Garibaldi and his men during this pivotal period in Italian history. It depicts key battles and events of the campaign, showcasing Garibaldi's leadership and the bravery of his volunteers. The film stars Enrico Maria Salerno as Giuseppe Garibaldi.
