Pen-y-bont Bro Morgannwg (Senedd constituency)
Pen-y-bont Bro Morgannwg, often anglicized as Bridgend, is a constituency of the Senedd (Welsh Parliament). It elects one Member of the Senedd (MS) by the first-past-the-post electoral system.
Boundaries:
The constituency covers the area approximating the town of Bridgend and surrounding areas in the county borough of Bridgend. It is one of four constituencies within the South Wales West electoral region. The other three are Aberafan, Dwyrain Abertawe, and Gorllewin Abertawe.
History:
The Pen-y-bont Bro Morgannwg constituency was created for the first election to the Assembly, in 1999, with the name and boundaries mirroring those of the Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr Westminster constituency at that time. In 2024, the constituency was renamed Pen-y-bont Bro Morgannwg to reflect the Welsh name of Bridgend.
Voting System:
As with all Senedd constituencies, Pen-y-bont Bro Morgannwg elects its MS using the first-past-the-post system. Additionally, it contributes to the election of regional members for the South Wales West region, using a closed-list proportional representation system.
