Rich Thompson (pitcher, born 1984)

Rich Thompson (born August 19, 1984) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2007.

Career:

Thompson attended high school at Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield, California. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 3rd round of the 2002 Major League Baseball draft.

He played in the Rays' minor league system from 2002 to 2007, working his way up through the various levels. He made his major league debut with the Tampa Bay Rays on September 13, 2007, against the New York Yankees. He pitched 1.2 innings, allowing one hit and one run. He appeared in 3 games for the Rays in 2007, posting a 6.75 ERA in 2.2 innings.

After the 2007 season, Thompson was released by the Rays. He subsequently played in the minor leagues for the Florida Marlins and the Pittsburgh Pirates organizations. He last played professionally in 2010.
